Today was the first exscursion to the White Mountain National Forest Carter Range Evans Notch. It is a short drive on Route 2 West from Bethel Maine.
We (Mike Heidi myself, and Caesar) did the Wild River Trail starting at the Wild River Campground. (Wild River Campground has about 10ish Campsites. Pump and outhouse). You can reach the Wild River Campground by turning right onto a dirtroad off of RT 113. If you pass the Hastings Campground you have gone just a tad too far.
The First part of the trail is very easy. It does get rough in a few spots. A couple of short boardwalks (about two feet wide) over boggy areas. In about .3 miles you will reach the Wild River Crossing. This is a great area just to relax and enjoy the area.

After the crossing the going starts to get steeper and the trail gets rougher. Most adults will have no problems with the trail.
After about 2.3 miles you will meet up at the Highwater TR and Wild River TR Junction.
It says 2 miles but it seemed an awful short two miles.
Part Two.
From the Junction we continued up the edge of the mountain to the Junction of Black Angel TR and Wild River TR. After Resting and enjoying the view we headed back down the moutain. Wild River Tr continues on to Perkins Notch Shelter and Ends at the Junction of Wildriver TR and Wildcat River trail. About another 1.7 Miles from that junction is AMC Carter Notch Hut.
